2016 NFL Draft: Miami Dolphins Pre-Combine Seven-Round Mock

By Jason Fletcher

The Miami Dolphins had an extremely disappointing 2015 season. After starting the season 1-3, the team made the decision to fire head coach Joe Philbin and replaced him with tight ends coach Dan Campbell. Campbell was only able to lead the team to a 5-7 record the rest of the way despite adding Ndamukong Suh to an already impressive defensive unit. Adding reinforcements in the 2016 NFL Draft will be a must for new head coach Adam Gase.

Here’s a recent full seven-round mock draft I did for the Dolphins using FanSpeak’s mock draft simulator.

Round 1, No. 8 Overall: DE Noah Spence, Eastern Kentucky

Cameron Wake just turned 34 years old and is coming off of a season-ending injury, while Olivier Vernon is a free agent. Adding a pass rusher should be one of the Dolphins' top priorities, and Spence is a beast if he can keep his head on straight.

Round 2, No. 42 Overall: CB Xavien Howard, Baylor

Although he had a down year in 2015, Brent Grimes is entrenched as the starter at one corner, but the Dolphins could use an upgrade over Jamar Taylor at the other. Howard would certainly provide them with that.

Round 3, No. 73 Overall: S Jalen Mills, LSU

Free Safety Louis Delmas is a free agent, and Mills would be the perfect replacement. He can cover and tackle and would fit nicely in the Dolphins' defensive backfield.

Round 4, No. 108 Overall: OT John Theus, Georgia

The Dolphins' offensive line allowed 45 sacks in 2015 which was tied for eighth-most in the NFL. Fixing a putrid group up front will go a long way towards improving a below-average offense.

This pick goes along with the reasoning behind the Theus selection. The Dolphins must address this offensive line in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Round 6, No. 189 Overall: TE Jerell Adams, South Carolina

The Dolphins love Dion Sims, but he has never reached his full potential. That led the team to sign Jordan Cameron last offseason, but he also disappointed. Adams could finally be the middle-of-the-field threat the Dolphins' offense needs.

Round 7, No. 225 Overall: RB Wendell Smallwood, West Virginia

Lamar Miller is a free agent, and although Jay Ajayi will be the likely featured back should Miller leave, Smallwood would give the team a speed-back to pair with the powerful Ajayi to form a nice one-two punch.

Round 7, No. 229 Overall: ILB Frank Shannon, Oklahoma

Starting middle linebacker Kelvin Sheppard is a free agent which opens a hole on the depth chart. While obviously a seventh-round pick would likely not start, Shannon could add some depth at the position and help on special teams.
