Fans of the Baltimore Ravens are aware of this team being three years removed from their second Super Bowl title. As they’ve struggled recently, a few issues have come to the forefront. Joe Flacco remains their franchise quarterback, but Baltimore is about defense and some of the defensive players are getting older.
Flacco is going to need help and he’s going to need it everywhere on the field. The Ravens might as well start on the defensive side of the ball.
Players have the most opportunity to turn games around with defensive plays. This team needs skill position players, but their first pick can’t be on a wide receiver who may get six or seven touches a game. They need to start thinking about replacing Terrell Suggs as he’s becoming the old man now, and Elvis Dumervil isn’t too far behind him. It’s time to get some young legs to help shore up that pass rush, and that starts with the drafting of former Ohio State Buckeyes defensive end Joey Bosa.
Bosa came into the NFL Combine and stated he was the best player there. That may not be accurate, but in Baltimore he’ll have a chance to prove it. It doesn’t hurt to be influenced by Suggs and Dumervil for a couple of years either. He’ll be able to soak up some of that veteran wisdom before they both hang up the cleats and call it a career.
Bosa brings with him a nice collegiate resume including 146 tackles, 21 sacks and an interception over the course of three years. He also helped win the 2014 NCAA football national championship and brings a ton of individual accolades. He earned the 2014 Nagurski-Woodson Defensive Player of the Year Award and numerous All American awards in three years, despite only starting ten games as a freshman and missing the first game of his final year due to suspension.
