It’s hard to imagine the frustration of being a Cleveland Browns fan. We won’t even talk about last-minute drives and fumbles. Let’s just begin with seeing the original version of the team move, become the Baltimore Ravens and win two Super Bowls. Then there’s the rival Pittsburgh Steelers who are one of the more storied franchises in all of sports. Throw in a Cincinnati Bengals team that’s returned to being competitive and it’s been a rough stretch for the Dawg Pound.
Ladies and gentlemen, this one’s pretty obvious. Following the dismissal of Johnny Manziel, the Browns will be in the market for a quarterback, and it’s the belief of every mock draft on the planet that they’ll use the No. 2 overall pick on the former California Golden Bears quarterback Jared Goff. Yes, this team has had its share of quarterbacks who were supposed to save the franchise, but nobody really thought any of those other guys really had a shot at doing so long term.
Truthfully, nothing new has been learned from the most recent NFL Combine at the quarterback position. We went in believing that the two best quarterback prospects were Goff and Carson Wentz. We came out of this weekend’s Combine believing the exact same thing. They have the most talent. They had the best showing at the workouts, and if you throw in Paxton Lynch, they’re the only quarterbacks people are trying to give any chance at succeeding.
The only reason Goff gets past the Browns is if they develop some sense of arrogance and just decide they want to prove everybody wrong in their thinking. Otherwise, expect this team to take another shot at finding their franchise quarterback. Goff is the guy who has the best chance to be exactly that.
