Jack Conklin Should Be Indianapolis Colts’ No. 1 Draft Target Following 2016 NFL Draft Combine

The AFC South was arguably the worst division in the NFL last season, and Andrew Luck’s injury still ruined any real hope the Indianapolis Colts had at making the playoffs. If the Colts want to win the AFC South next season, they must strike it big in the 2016 NFL Draft at key positions.

Arguably the biggest need for the Colts coming into the 2016 season is help along the offensive line, and Indianapolis should look no further than Michigan State‘s Jack Conklin.

Conklin performed well in the NFL Combine, but was not spectacular. He ran a 5.00 40-yard dash, which is great for an offensive lineman. His high draftability comes from his size, and how well he blocked for Connor Cook in his time at Michigan State. However, one of the more impressive accomplishments Conklin had during college was when he was able to win his matchups with DeForest Buckner, who should be a top-five pick.

Many have Conklin going at No. 13 to the Philadelphia Eagles, but the Colts may benefit from the rising popularity of Carson Wentz and Jared Goff. If one of the two are available at No. 13, it would surprise no one if the Eagles snagged a quarterback, leaving Conklin to fall far enough that Indianapolis can either take him at No. 18 or move up a few spots to take him.

The Colts can clearly win the AFC South next season, as long as they protect Luck. Adding Conklin to their roster should do just that, and the Colts can focus on improving other aspects of the team.
