New List of Players Chicago Bears Should Target Prior to Free Agency

The start of free agency in the NFL is only a few days away, and the Chicago Bears have a ton of options to consider when trying to bolster their roster for the 2016 season. With a ton of salary cap space, the Bears could definitely make a significant splash during the offseason. A month ago, I made a list of free agents that Chicago could target. Now that four of those five players are under their respective team’s franchise tag, here are the top five players the Bears should have on their radar.

Reggie Nelson — Although he’ll be entering his 10th season in the NFL, Reggie Nelson and his nose for the football would help Chicago’s defense greatly. Nelson’s eight interceptions were double the number the Bears’ secondary had in 2015.

Kelechi Osemele — Kelechi Osemele, a five-year veteran guard, could bring youth, depth, and stability to the interior of the Bears’ offensive line. Osemele would also be an upgrade from Vladimir Ducasse.

Janoris Jenkins — Janoris Jenkins can be a great complement to Chicago’s No. 1 cornerback Kyle Fuller. The potential addition of Jenkins will also give the Bears one less thing to worry about early in the upcoming draft.

Malik Jackson — If the Bears can get on a common ground regarding his high salary demands, Malik Jackson could make Chicago’s front seven one of the best in the league. Jackson’s run-stopping ability could improve the Bears’ struggling run defense.

Danny Trevathan — Danny Trevathan could be the steal of free agency. Adding Trevathan gives Chicago the chance of replacing Shea McClellin, as well as using their 11th overall pick on a pass rusher rather than an inside linebacker like Reggie Ragland.
