5 Quarterbacks Who Could Become New Starter For Denver Broncos

By Brad Berreman

Just over a month after winning Super Bowl 50, the Denver Broncos have a serious question at quarterback. Peyton Manning‘s retirement was expected, but the Houston Texans made an aggressive offer and signed Brock Osweiler on the first day of free agency. A 2015 seventh-round pick, Trevor Siemian is now the only quarterback on the Broncos’ roster, and he’s an obvious long shot to start.

As the Broncos look for a new starting quarterback, here are five signal callers they could bring aboard.

5. Mark Sanchez

The now-expendable in Houston Brian Hoyer is an easy option here, but I'm going with Sanchez. There were already some indications the Philadelphia Eagles were going to cut him, but Wednesday's signing of Chase Daniel seals it. The Broncos probably would not sign Sanchez and hand him the starting job, but he could easily be brought in to compete and add depth.

4. Mike Glennon

Trade rumors surrounding Glennon date back a year, but Tampa Bay general manager Jason Licht has recently been steadfast in a desire not to move the team's backup quarterback. Dueling insiders Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport have mentioned Glennon as a trade target for the Broncos, and if they are willing to part with a good draft pick Licht could change his tune quickly.

3. Robert Griffin III

Griffin has of course been released by the Washington Redskins, and multiple reports have said he is on Denver's radar. The skillset he showed as a rookie, pre-knee injury and before the constant drama in Washington, would be a good fit for Gary Kubiak's offense.

2. Ryan Fitzpatrick

Fitzpatrick has yet to re-sign with the New York Jets, and at least one other team (Houston) that could have had interest in him is no longer in the market for a quarterback. The Broncos apparently weren't willing to get into a bidding war for Osweiler, but they could see Fitzpatrick's longer track record as a better investment.

1. Colin Kaepernick

On Wednesday morning, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that Kaepernick would be the Broncos' backup plan if they could not re-sign Osweiler. The San Francisco 49ers remain committed (at least publicly) to keeping Kaepernick, but Denver may make a trade offer that can't be turned away.
