Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sign Brent Grimes Despite Wife's Twitter Antics

By Timothy Downs

Unless you were living under a rock this week, you know former Miami Dolphins cornerback Brent Grimes‘ wife went on a Twitter rampage over the way things ended for Grimes in South Beach. The Dolphins had asked Grimes to take a pay cut in a restructured deal. He declined, and Miami subsequently released him.

Miko Grimes also took offense to a reporter saying her bizarre social media behavior was the main reason Miami wanted to move on from her husband, and essentially threatened Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald.

Naturally, this scared a number of teams away from signing the 32-year-old veteran cornerback despite his elite abilities. However, his wife’s antics clearly weren’t enough to deter the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from inking Grimes to a lucrative contract. The two sides reached a two-year deal worth a reported $16.5 million on Friday.

There’s no denying Grimes is still incredibly capable on the field, but his wife’s social media presence has the potential to be a public relations nightmare again down the road. Aside from the drama on social media, she was also arrested outside of Sun Life Stadium in September following a trespassing incident in which she had to be subdued by police. This unquestionably put a strain on Grimes’ relationship with the Dolphins.

Thankfully, someone wisely got through to Miko, and she deleted both her infamous Twitter and Instagram accounts on Friday. However, she made sure to release one final statement via South Florida Sun Sentinel reporter Omar Kelly.

Considering her track record, it’s hard to imagine Miko will be silent for long. However, with their poor secondary play from 2015 in mind, her behavior is probably the least of the Buccaneers’ worries.

Stay tuned, folks.
