Since signing a big contract with the Miami Dolphins, Mike Wallace‘s career has taken a serious downturn over the last three seasons. Rock bottom may have come last season, as the 29-year-old wide receiver set or tied career lows in receptions (39), receiving yards (473) and touchdowns (two), and the Minnesota Vikings made an obvious decision to cut Wallace prior to the start of free agency.
The Baltimore Ravens were reported to have interest in Wallace last week, and after a scheduled visit Monday the two sides have reportedly agreed to a contract.

Kamar Aiken showed some promise last season,with 75 receptions for 944 yards and five touchdowns, but with injury question marks attached to Steve Smith and Breshad Perriman, the Ravens need wide receiver help. Wallace was a capable deep threat during his time with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and as long as his drop-off over the last few seasons can be blamed on deep ball deficient quarterback, he can fill a need for Baltimore. The Ravens are betting on getting the Pittsburgh version of Wallace, with quarterback Joe Flacco‘s big arm in line to bring out his best as a downfield threat.
The Ravens have targeted older, and theoretically more proven, players to this point in free agency. Wallace fits that profile, and the reasonable two-year deal he has signed looks like a low-risk, solid-upside move for Baltimore as they look to turn things around next season.
