Denver Broncos Rumors: Tyrod Taylor Is A Possible Trade Target

The Denver Broncos are in an incredibly unusual situation currently. Rarely does a team win a Super Bowl in February and subsequently lose the No. 1 and No. 2 quarterbacks on its depth chart a few weeks later in March.

Peyton Manning was expected to retire, but Denver thought for sure Brock Osweiler would stay in town and take over the reins. Instead, Osweiler elected to sign with the Houston Texans, and the Broncos ended up with Mark Sanchez after orchestrating a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a conditional draft pick.

It doesn’t appear as if John Elway and Co. feel comfortable heading into the summer with Sanchez at No. 1 on the depth chart. On multiple occasions over the past few weeks, the Broncos have agreed to terms to acquire Colin Kaepernick from the San Francisco 49ers, but the Broncos want Kaepernick to restructure his current deal, and the two parties haven’t been able to find common ground.

Free agent Ryan Fitzpatrick wants way more money than Denver is willing to pay him, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers reportedly want a first-round pick for Mike Glennon, which the Broncos are unlikely to part with.

Thus, the Broncos are running out of adequate options.

On Thursday afternoon, rumors swirled about Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak having discussions with Johnny Manziel about possibly joining the team. However, with his off-the-field lifestyle seemingly more important to Manziel than his football career, it’s difficult to imagine the Broncos — a team that has a chance to compete for another Super Bowl thanks to an insanely stout defense and solid running game — will put much trust in someone who might not be truly committed to the task at hand.

In their continued efforts to find their starting signal caller for 2016, new rumors suggest the Broncos are thinking outside the box a tad, and have reached out to the Buffalo Bills to gauge their interest in moving Tyrod Taylor.

After sitting behind Joe Flacco for four years with the Baltimore Ravens since being drafted out of Virginia Tech in 2011, Taylor finally got a chance to begin a season as the starting quarterback of an NFL team in 2015. Taylor made head coach Rex Ryan look incredibly wise by putting up impressive statistics (3,035 passing yards, 20 TDs, 568 rushing yards, four TDs), which were solid enough for Taylor to cement his first Pro Bowl selection.

Taylor would likely be an excellent fit in Denver, as he built a rapport with Kubiak during their time together in Baltimore. But after searching for a long-term solution at quarterback for quite some time, the Bills are going to want a king’s ransom in return to obtain his services. Thus, this deal seems unlikely to come to fruition despite the whispers that suggest something to the contrary. However, the Broncos are desperate, and stranger things have taken place in the NFL.
