Carson Wentz Will Be Carbon Copy Of Joe Flacco At NFL Level

The FCS comparisons and physical stature similarities are undeniable between 2016 NFL Draft prospect Carson Wentz and current Baltimore Ravens signal-caller Joe Flacco. It was eight years ago when Flacco was selected No. 18 overall and then four years later when hoisted the Lombardi Trophy. While those are lofty expectations to place on the shoulders of Wentz, he’s already done his fair share of winning.

Unlike Flacco, Wentz brings a pedigree to the league of having won national championships every single season he suited up for the North Dakota State Bison. But what these two share is uncommon arm strength and even more unrivaled size.

Flacco (6-foot-6, 245 pounds) and Wentz (6-foot-5, 237 pounds) both have cannons for arms that allow them to deliver the ball deep down the field with accuracy. Many scouts marveled how Wentz made a few 50-plus yard throws at his pro day that reminded them of Flacco nearly a decade ago now.

Other analysts have weighed in with similar praise, as Mike Mayock offered this on NFL HQ following Wentz’s pro day:

“I’ve watched every game that he was in this year, and I’m more convinced than ever that he’s the top quarterback in this draft. This kid controls the line of scrimmage. He’s under center, he’s in (shotgun), he controls all the pass protections, and he can make every throw.”

So while reports continue to claim that the Cleveland Browns favor Jared Goff of California over Wentz at No. 2 overall, making that selection if they’re both on the board would be a monumental misstep. Guys like Wentz are rare building blocks, while Goff just seems like a handful of players who come out every year with potential to be fixtures on NFL rosters, but not Super Bowl-winning QBs.
