By Christopher Gamble

The New York Giants enter the 2016 NFL Draft with a lot of needs. They should fill those holes throughout the draft, but their first-round pick must be a player who can provide an immediate impact. GM Jerry Reese’s job depends on it. Recently, the Giants have been linked with a whole slew of prospects. Some make sense while others seem to be out of left field. Here are five players the Giants need to avoid selecting in the first round.

5. Laquon Treadwell, WR, Mississippi

The Giants need a wide receiver, and even though Treadwell might be the best prospect in the draft, he isn’t worth the No. 10 overall pick. The Giants need to focus on other needs.

The Giants need help at safety. However, while Joseph might be the best safety in the draft after the versatile Jalen Ramsey, he would be a huge reach at No. 10.

Ragland is a steady prospect. He does a lot of things well but doesn’t excel in any one area. He is a late first-round pick but a reach at No. 10.

Some call him the best pass rusher in the draft, but off-field issues make Noah Spence too much of a risk for the Giants to pick in the first round.

1. Ezekiel Elliott, RB, Ohio State

He is by far the best RB in the draft, but the Giants don’t run the ball enough for him to achieve the greatest impact. He is worth being a top-10 pick, just not for the Giants right now.
