The Denver Broncos won Super Bowl 50 in February, and by the middle of March, they had lost their starting and second-string quarterbacks after Peyton Manning retired and Brock Osweiler unexpectedly signed with the Houston Texans.
The Broncos have made a plethora of attempts to trade for Colin Kaepernick of the San Francisco 49ers since, but have never been willing to acquire him under his current deal. Thus, the talks have stalled each and every time.
Now, here we are at the end of April, with the NFL Draft just hours away, and Mark Sanchez remains at No. 1 on the depth chart. And with the exception of the top two guys at the position — Jared Goff and Carson Wentz — there doesn’t seem to be a player capable of starting in the league next season, which means Denver’s 2016 starter won’t be found in the draft.
It’s hard for Broncos fans to get on John Elway‘s case considering the team is just under three months removed from winning it all, but they clearly are concerned with the Broncos’ inability to land a signal-caller. Thus, it was only a matter of time before clamors for the return of Tim Tebow began to gain steam.
A petition was started at Change.org to bring Tebow back to Denver two months ago, and as of today, it has over 4,000 signatures.
Tebow, 28, hasn’t played a single down in the NFL since 2012. However, according to the petition, he’s a great fit in Denver’s offense under head coach Gary Kubiak.
The Denver Broncos have lost their two main quarterbacks from their epic 2016 Super Bowl Championship winning season. We need a proven winner to continue to move this team in the right direction. Coach Gary Kubiak’s offense would thrive with Tebow under center. He and the legendary John Elway can make this happen. We dont need a subpar throwaway from some other team, we need an original Bronco who has the fire, desire, and love of the game to play as a Bronco again! As a bonus the Bronco fans would be ecstatic! He just wins, we all know this! #TebowTime
Tebow supporters won’t accept the fact that he’s not an NFL caliber quarterback until he’s in his late 40s in all likelihood, but their passion for the cause is admirable nonetheless.
