The 2016 NFL Draft kicked off Thursday night from Chicago. The Los Angeles Rams and Philadelphia Eagles did exactly as we thought they would and selected quarterbacks with the top two picks. After that, the draft got kind of crazy and took a few twists and turns. Here are the five biggest surprises from the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft.
5. Cardinals Select Robert Nkemdiche
Getty ImagesNkemdiche has all the tools to be a great defensive lineman in the NFL, but he has a number of off the field issues. While he said that he's ready to put that stuff behind him, it remains to be seen if he actually knows how to do that.
4. San Francisco 49ers Select Joshua Garnett
Getty ImagesThe 49ers traded back into the first round in a move that many expected to be for a quarterback. Instead, the team took Garnett who was projected to go in the middle rounds by most experts. Seems like a lot to give up for a guard.
3. Giants Take Eli Apple
Getty ImagesThe Giants signed Janoris Jenkins to a five-year deal to replace Prince Amukamara who left in free agency. While they could've used some depth behind Jenkins and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Apple seems like an unnecessary reach.
2. Chargers Select Joey Bosa
Getty ImagesMany experts thought the Chargers would select Laremy Tunsil or DeForest Buckner. Instead, they shook up the entire first round when they selected Bosa. The defensive end from Ohio State should endear himself to fans rather quickly.

Getty ImagesTunsil was expected to be a surefire top-10 pick, but he slid all the way to No. 13 when the Dolphins selected him. Ten minutes before the draft commenced, a video of Tunsil smoking a bong surfaced on social media. It was a surprise to say the least.
