Grading Every Pick Of Los Angeles Rams' 2016 NFL Draft

By Bryan Zarpentine

The 2016 NFL Draft was a major event in the history of the Los Angeles Rams. They drafted who they hope will be their franchise quarterback in Jared Goff and put down the groundwork for the future of the team in its new home. Of course, after trading up for the No. 1 overall pick, the Rams only made six total picks. Let’s take a look at how each of those selections graded out.

Round 1: Jared Goff, QB, California

In most years, Goff is a mid-to-late first round pick, but the Rams needed a quarterback, so they took him first overall. He's far from a sure thing, and we'll have to wait and see if he pans out in the long run.

This was a bit of a luxury pick for the Rams, which was odd for a team with so few picks. Higbee has great talent, but he's a risky pick.

Cooper is a great talent and a potential steal in Round 4 of the draft, as he could become an outstanding slot receiver. The downside is that the Rams already have several receivers who are quick and fast but undersized.

Round 6: Temarrick Hemingway, TE, South Carolina State

Hemingway may turn into a useful player, but drafting a second tight end instead of addressing more pressing needs makes no sense. This pick is a perfect example of the poor and questionable choices the Rams made during the draft.

Forrest is a solid if unspectacular pick late in the draft. He has a unique skill set for a linebacker, and the Rams should be able to find a role for him in certain defensive situations and on special teams.

Again, the Rams failed to address a more pressing needs. Thomas has some skills, but he may not even make the roster and won't make a huge impact. The Rams would have been better off adding some depth at safety with this pick.
