More so than almost any other team, the New York Giants needed to have a good showing at the 2016 NFL Draft. The Giants have been stuck in neutral the past few seasons, unable to win a very winnable division. With a new head coach in place, it’s time for the Giants to take a step forward. Of course to do that, they’ll need an infusion of young talent from their draft class. Here is a look at what grades New York’s picks deserve.
Round 1: Eli Apple - C+

It's debatable whether Apple was the best cornerback on the board when the Giants made this pick. The talent is definitely there, but Apple is still young, raw and he may not make much of an impact as a rookie.
Round 2: Sterling Shepard - B+

This is a nice addition for New York's offense. It would have been better to add a slot receiver in the later rounds, but Shepard is a good complementary receiver and adds an element the Giants have been lacking in recent years.
Round 3: Darian Thompson - B

The Giants needed someone who could push Cooper Taylor at safety, so this is a good pick. He has some work to round out his game, but he has the potential to create turnovers for the Giants' defense, which is something they need.
Round 4: B.J. Goodson - B+

Adding help at linebacker was definitely a smart move by the Giants. Goodson has a real chance to become a starter during his rookie year, which is great value in Round 4, and he will be a big help to New York's run defense.
Round 5: Paul Perkins - B-

Taking a running back who isn't a lock to be a primary ball carrier doesn't make much sense for the Giants. That being said, Perkins offers a nice change of pace, even if he may only be the team's third string back.
Round 6: Jerell Adams - B-

A bit of a luxury pick with other needs still left to address, but Adams becomes another interesting weapon in New York's offense. He can win jump balls and could surprise people if pressed into duty early in his career.
