Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill Received Tutoring Session From Peyton Manning

Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill is about to enter his fifth season in the NFL and he’s already on his fourth offensive coordinator. Clyde Christensen, and head coach Adam Gase, will be tasked with getting the most out of the Dolphins’ franchise quarterback, but Tannehill ended up getting a jump on the new offense from an unlikely source.

Peyton Manning, who’s a huge supporter of Gase and his offense, traveled down to Miami earlier in the spring to give Tannehill a tutoring session on the new offense. It happened during a time when the coaches weren’t allowed to have contact with the players, so it allowed Tannehill to begin learning the playbook earlier than he normally would have.

“It was really cool,” Tannehill said. “A guy that had his career, the living legend he is, coming off a Super Bowl winning season — it was really cool just to be able to sit and pick his brain about things he’s done in this offense and football things in general: snap counts, things you like, the way you want guys to run routes, little details about the game. We really just got to talk the game, which is something we both love.”

According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the session was completely Manning’s idea.

“At that time, we weren’t able to meet with the coaches or anything, so I didn’t really have a great handle yet,” Tannehill said. “So I wasn’t really able to dive into the playbook too much. So I had a few questions (for Manning). If he comes back now, we can have a completely different conversation.”

If Tannehill is never able to take his game to the next level, it won’t be for lack of resources. To have a quarterback guru like Gase and a mentor like Manning, there are no longer any excuses for Tannehill.
