Louis Riddick has been a great replacement for Ray Lewis on ESPN’s NFL draft coverage, and it turns out the latter’s absence this year was not a coincidence. According to The Big Lead, Lewis and Cris Carter are going to be the latest to leave ESPN in what is shaping up to be a mass exodus and major reshaping of the network’s NFL coverage.
As a side note to the news of Lewis and Carter leaving, Randy Moss is reportedly coming to Bristol from Fox Sports, where he appeared on pre-game coverage last season. ESPN will reportedly hold a press conference Monday afternoon to announce their lineup changes. It has also been reported that Sean McDonough will take the Monday Night Football play-by-play seat from Mike Tirico, who is leaving ESPN for NBC this summer.
I fully expect Carter to land somewhere as an analyst, probably Fox Sports, but Lewis has never really cut it as an analyst and would be better served pursuing something else. I could see Lewis starting on a track toward becoming a coach in the NFL, where he could use the intensity that worked to his advantage as a player and impart it on current players.
