Running backs have been devalued across the NFL over the last few years because there are so many quality players at the position. That said, there are a lot of teams with strong running games that will carry their offenses in 2016. Here’s a look at five teams with the best groups of runners for the upcoming season.
5. Arizona Cardinals
Getty ImagesDavid Johnson was an absolute stud down the stretch last year for the Cardinals, and their unit should only get better. Chris Johnson will be back from an injury while Andre Ellington will continue to add a speed element to their running game.
4. Dallas Cowboys
Getty ImagesEzekiel Elliott will be a workhorse back as a rookie. Darren McFadden will be a speed back with explosive ability, while Alfred Morris will be a between the tackles guy. Lance Dunbar will contribute on passing downs. Overall, this is a solid group.
3. New York Jets
Getty ImagesThe Jets signed Matt Forte and Khiry Robinson this offseason, and they will be great additions to the team. Bilal Powell will be a third down and change of pace back, while Zac Stacy will get short yardage work. The Jets have a deep, versatile group.
2. Kansas City Chiefs
Getty ImagesJamaal Charles is going to be returning from an injury which will make the team three deep at the position. Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West were terrific replacements for Charles last year, and the trio should have a lot of success in 2016.
1. Buffalo Bills
Getty ImagesLeSean McCoy is a stud and the depth behind him is impressive. Karlos Williams was excellent as a rookie while Mike Gillislee came out of nowhere to be a contributor. Adding rookie Jonathan Williams will give the team the NFL's best backfield.
