In the NFL, the tight end position has become increasingly important over the last 15 years. Players like Tony Gonzalez helped to revolutionize the position and make it more about pass catching as opposed to just blocking. Now, having a great tight end is key to having a good offense, and here is a look at five teams that have excellent tight end groups in place for the 2016 season.
5. San Diego Chargers

The Chargers have long featured Antonio Gates on offense, and the veteran is still a contributor. Now, he will be paired with talented rookie Hunter Henry, and their depth players (Sean McGrath, Asante Cleveland, Jeff Cumberland) are decent too.

Delanie Walker was absolutely phenomenal last season and caught more passes than any other tight end in 2015. Aside from him, proven veterans Anthony Fasano and Craig Stevens provide depth while Philip Supernaw has some potential as well.

Last season, Tyler Eifert was the best red zone threat in the league, scoring 13 touchdowns. Behind him, the Bengals have Tyler Kroft, who will develop into a good backup, and H-Back Ryan Hewitt, who is a great combo player.

Jordan Reed developed into one of the best tight ends in the league last year, and he will continue to have success in 2016. Elsewhere, Niles Paul and Vernon Davis are solid backup receiving options while Logan Paulsen will be the blocking tight end.

Rob Gronkowski might be the best tight end to ever play the game, and he will be paired with a solid complement, Martellus Bennett, this season. Depth-wise, Michael Williams is a solid blocker and Clay Harbor is a good backup combo player.
