Buffalo Bills Should Explore Making Trade For OT Breno Giacomini

By Jacob Camenker

The Buffalo Bills have had a pretty solid offseason, but there are currently a lot of questions surrounding the organization. At the moment, it appears as though the front office management, namely GM Doug Whaley and head coach Rex Ryan, are on thin ice heading into the season. The two have to do everything they can to make it to the playoffs or they may end up getting the ax at the end of the season.

While the Bills do have a pretty talented roster, they have some minor holes on the squad that they could stand to fill. One of them is at the right tackle position, where they could use a small upgrade. The team might want to look into acquiring Breno Giacomini from the New York Jets to fix the issue.

Giacomini is a six-year veteran who would be the final piece across the Bills’ solid offensive line. Giacomini has started 57 games over the past four seasons, and has generally been a pretty good starter since he broke into the starting lineup with the Seattle Seahawks. Last year, Giacomini had a bit of a down year for the team in terms of pass protection, but he still started every game and had some success in the run game.

Regardless of his struggles last season defending the pass, Giacomini would still be an upgrade for the Bills’ offensive line. Jordan Mills played admirably at the right tackle position last year, but he would be a much better fit as a backup swing tackle. Also, the team’s lack of depth is currently a major issue as Cyrus Kouandjio has not developed thanks to injury issues, and Seantrel Henderson may not return this season as he continues to battle Crohn’s disease. Adding Giacomini would fix that and give the team three reliable options at the position.

The price for Giacomini likely would not be too high either. The Jets may not want to pay him the roughly $10 million left on his contract over the next two years, so they might look to get rid of him. Giving up a conditional sixth-round pick could get a deal done and it will be worth the investment. Giacomini could help make the Bills’ offensive line even better than it already is, and his familiarity with Rex Ryan makes this option all the more appealing.
