5 Takeaways From Washington Redskins' 2016 NFL Draft

By Geoffrey Knox

The Washington Redskins are one the most popular teams in the NFL, but unfortunately for their fans, things just haven’t gone their way consistently enough over the last decade or so. There were free agency debacles and bad contracts, but it appears all of that may be behind them as they look to build a solid roster through the draft (like good teams are supposed to do). Here’s what we have learned after examining their 2016 draft class.

5. DeSean Jackson And Pierre Garcon Won't Be Back After 2016

The Redskins didn't really need a receiver, yet they took Josh Doctson with their first pick. Jamison Crowder is young and going to be great in this league. DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon are getting older and are very expensive. You do the math.

Kendall Fuller was drafted as the Redskins continue to try to figure out what to do at cornerback, but they did so knowing he wouldn't be ready to play immediately. If he gets healthy, they got a steal getting him where they did.

Kirk Cousins may have led the Redskins to a division title, but he doesn't beat teams with winning records. Nate Sudfeld wasn't talked about a lot prior to the draft, but he's obviously on the team to add depth, or create competition, or both.

Keith Marshall's got jets. We're talking about running the 40-yard dash in 4.3 seconds kind of jets. With Alfred Morris now playing for the hated Dallas Cowboys, expect Marshall to get on the field immediately.

The photo you see above kind of sums up the Redskins' cornerbacks. They get overpowered frequently, are typically a step too slow and just don't seem to get there on time. They did add Josh Norman and drafted yet another cornerback in Fuller.
