Jim Kelly Says Rex Ryan Could Be Fired If Buffalo Bills Miss Playoffs In 2016

By Brad Berreman

Rex Ryan is never at a loss for words, and upon becoming head coach of the Buffalo Bills in 2015 it was no different. But speculation that ownership wasn’t happy with his performance surfaced during last season, and combined with an 8-8 record, Ryan may already be on the hot seat.

Former Bills’ quarterback Jim Kelly appeared on “The Jim Rome Show” last week, and he turned the burner up on Ryan’s hot seat entering the 2016 season.

“I think Rex will probably be looking for another job (if they don’t make the playoffs),” Kelly said Thursday. “I think everybody knows that, including Rex.”

The Bills have the NFL‘s longest running playoff drought, but it’s hard to see Ryan getting fired during or immediately after his second season at the helm. The Bills finished 19th in yardage allowed last season (356.4 yards per game) with just 21 sacks (second-fewest in the league), and defense is Ryan’s calling card to a fault. So if things don’t improve on that side of the ball, probably dramatically, questions about his job security will be become regular weekly fodder for Ryan to answer to.
