Former San Francisco 49ers HC Jim Harbaugh Wants A Medal For Lasting Four Years With Franchise

Former San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh did an exceptional job of turning the 49ers around during his four-year tenure.

Under Harbaugh, the 49ers went 44-19-1 in the regular season, appeared in the NFC Championship game in three straight seasons, and made a trip to Super Bowl XLVII which they ultimately lost to the Baltimore Ravens.

After an 8-8 campaign in 2014, the 49ers inexplicably fired Harbaugh in what was easily one of the worst coaching changes in NFL history.

Harbaugh recently appeared on Tim Kawakami‘s podcast on Mercury News and opened up a bit about his time in San Francisco.

At one point, the Michigan Wolverines head coach joked that he deserved an “endurance medal” for lasting four years with the dysfunctional organization.

I think we did set a record for coaching there the longest under the present ownership. I take pride in that. Maybe there should be an endurance medal, a courage medal, for that.

 

The 49ers have hired and fired two coaches (Jim Tomsula, Chip Kelly) after just a single campaign respectively, and have gone an abysmal 7-25 in the regular season since letting Harbaugh go.
