Jerry Jones Is Talking About Former Texas A&M Star Johnny Manziel Again

By Jason Fletcher

If you’ll remember correctly, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was dangerously close to drafting Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel in the 2014 NFL Draft, but Jerry’s son, Stephen, who is also vice president of the Cowboys, ended up snatching the draft card out of his father’s hands.

Here’s the story from Jim Dent’s book, Manziel Mania:

“I could just see Jones grabbing Manziel with the 16th choice of the first round. I wrote a book about Jerry Jones in 1995 titled ‘King of the Cowboys.’ I know the Boss Hog. I knew that Jones’ hands were shaking when the Cowboys went on the clock with Manziel still on the board. I could envision Jones scribbling the name of Johnny Manziel on the draft card. Indeed, all of these things happened.

“As it turned out, Cowboys vice president Stephen Jones had snatched the Manziel card straight out of his dad’s hand. Otherwise, Jerry would have drafted him and JFF would have sat for at least three years behind Tony Romo.”

Reports came out last week that Manziel is drawing “real interest” several NFL teams and Jerry Jones just couldn’t help himself from commenting on the former Aggies star.

From the Dallas Morning News:

“Enough has been said,” Jones added. “I certainly admire the same things all of the A&M fans have admired about him, but I recognize just as everybody does, including him, his challenges. So that’s about all I can say. We are aware of him. He is a talented guy.”

There’s no way Jerry Jones would sign Johnny Manziel, right? Right?!
