Washington Redskins' Drama: Jealous Ownership Uses Alcohol as Scapegoat to Can General Manager

Two years ago, the Washington Redskins hired former senior personnel executive of the Seattle Seahawks, Scot McCloughan, to come in and take over as general manager after things fell apart with Robert Griffin III. All McCloughan did was help the Redskins to an NFC East title in 2015 and within a Week 17 loss to the New York Giants of returning to the playoffs in 2016.

Despite two seemingly successful seasons, McCloughan was fired on Thursday as general manager of the Redskins.

According to the Washington Post’s Mike Jones, the reasoning doesn’t seem to be related to football, but to jealousy of the team’s success and McCloughan’s hand in it.

Obviously, Jones didn’t name any names, but the finger seems to be pointed at team president Bruce Allen and owner Daniel Snyder as he also reported that most everyone in the organization like and respected McCloughan.

 

Most teams are busy signing free agents. Redskins are busy firing their GM, who everyone who worked and played for him respected.

But players, his scouting staff, and even coaches all respected and appreciated McCloughan.

McCloughan’s past drinking drinking issues are well-documented, but it certainly seems as if there could be some deeper issues here as reported by Jones.
