Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton Undergoes Shoulder Surgery for Torn Rotator Cuff

By Anthony Blake

Rotator cuff surgery is a serious procedure for an NFL quarterback, and for a former league MVP like Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton, it may be the sign for this soon-to-be 28-year-old quarterback to be a little less willing to run in the future.

The injury occurred in Week 14 against the now-Los Angeles Chargers, and including the game in question, Newton completed just 48 percent of his passes over the final four games of the season.

So while this may fix the accuracy issues he experienced down the stretch, only more discretion when leaving the pocket will keep Newton healthy for the long haul.

And this may only help fuel the speculation that a team like Carolina may be one of the few plausible landing spots for controversial free agent QB Colin Kaepernick as Newton’s backup.
