UCLA standout outside linebacker Takkarist McKinley grew up in the hardscrabble streets of Richmond, Ca, which borders Oakland’s toughest neighborhoods.
When McKinley’s parents could no longer adequately take care of him as a youngster, his grandmother took on the responsibility and became his entire world.
After being drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the first-round of the 2017 NFL Draft (No. 26 overall) on Thursday night, McKinley, holding a framed photograph of his late grandmother, explained that he promised her he would be a first-round pick one day just mere seconds prior to her passing away.
Naturally, McKinley was laden with emotion. Thus, it’s understandable to see him accidentally drop an F-Bomb on live television during an exchange with former Falcons cornerback and NFL Hall of Famer, Deion Sanders.

If McKinley plays with similar passion on Sundays, the Falcons will have themselves an incredibly productive edge rusher for years to come.
