After trying to pry Jimmy Garappolo away from the New England Patriots via trade one last time, the Cleveland Browns appeared to give up on competing this coming season by selecting a project in DeShone Kizer in Round 2 of the 2017 NFL Draft to be their future signal-caller.
And given the team’s collective inexperience at the position as-is – with Brock Osweiler, Cody Kessler, and Kevin Hogan on the depth chart – it doesn’t seem like Cleveland is the best environment for Kizer to grow in over the coming season.
Granted, the Kizer from 2015 appeared to hold more promise than the version from this past season at Notre Dame, but banking on past results seems like a losing proposition.
Of course, the Browns did spend big on the offensive line this offseason, so that’s a positive.
Plus, quarterback guru Hue Jackson has gotten the most out of young guys under center in the past.
It’s just hard to see how this isn’t just yet another mulligan on a long list of ‘wait until next year’ moves by this organization.
