Buffalo Bills Big Winners in Blockbuster Sammy Watkins Trade with Eagles & Rams

By Anthony Blake

It may be difficult to see at the moment, but the Buffalo Bills completed a pair of trades that set them up for success moving forward as a franchise.

Dealing Sammy Watkins to the Los Angeles Rams after declining his fifth-year option and also moving cornerback Ronald Darby to the Philadelphia Eagles while receiving replacement level players in return is a big win.

With Jordan Matthews and EJ Gaines coming back to Buffalo in the deals, as well as second- and third-round picks in the 2018 NFL Draft, the Bills essentially stayed the same personnel-wise while adding two prime draft choices.

For a team starting anew with a fresh regime and philosophy, the Bills will be ready to hit the ground running next season while losing very little in terms of production in the present.
