49ers' Marquise Goodwin Offers Inspiring Words for Young Fan in Wheelchair

By Anthony Blake

The connection between players and fans is often too abstract to actually feel, but San Francisco 49ers receiver Marquise Goodwin altered that idea with a young fan in a wheelchair at camp.

When Austin DeMello attended Niners camp courtesy of Make-A-Wish and he was looking glum, Goodwin offered the perfect words to get his spirits up.

It’s a little dusty this am. @marquisegoodwin + @makeawishamerica visit with Austin.

No one else can ever possibly fully understand another person’s pain, but establishing a connection like this and inspiring a young man to persevere is just as valuable in the grand scheme of things.

By sharing a personal narrative and giving this young man a reason to be upbeat, Goodwin has officially become a hero worth cheering for.
