Detroit Lions Make Matthew Stafford Highest-Paid Player in NFL History

By Anthony Blake

As expected, the Detroit Lions made Matthew Stafford an even richer man on Monday night, inking the gunslinger to a new five-year deal that will pay him an average annual value of $27 million.

That surpasses the deal given to the Oakland RaidersDerek Carr earlier this offseason in what seems to be a most-recent-gets-paid-the most type of market.

With other big-name quarterbacks expecting extensions soon as well, the Lions were actually smart to get this deal done now as opposed to waiting for the market ceiling to rise even higher.

Detroit has their QB locked up for the foreseeable future – now all they have to do is win something with him.
