He hasn’t been in Atlanta long, but Dustin Byfuglien has made waves in the first few months as a Thrasher.
Acquired in a trade from the Chicago Blackhawks, that also brought captain Andrew Ladd to Atlanta, Byfuglien has brought national attention to what was a lowly Thrashers squad as recently as last year. Byfuglien has made his transition from the forward line to the blue line a flawless one.
Big Buff’s 41 points are tied for tops among defenseman, even with the great Detroit defenseman, Nicklas Lidstrom. His 16 goals, however, stand alone among d-men.
Those efforts have culminated in Byfuglien’s first career All Star appearance. The Minnesota native was one of 42 players selected, joining the top six vote-getters that were announced last week.
Joining Byfuglien in Raleigh, will be fellow defenseman Tobias Enstrom. Enstrom is on pace to top his career high of 50 points, with 38 on the season so far. He’s already set a career high in goals, with eight.
The NHL All Star Game is January 30th, in Raleigh. The teams will be selected in a fantasy draft by the yet-to-be-named captains on the 28th.
