Malkin Sits Tonight, All-Star Weekend

Evgeni Malkin will miss his third straight game tonight with a knee injury and a sinus infection. He will also not be attending the All-Star game, according to Dan Bylsma.

Are the Penguins sending a message to the league? One saying they’re upset no action was taken on either hit on Sid (Steckel or Hedman), and in turn are not requiring either of their superstars attend the All-Star game and festivities? If they are… I’m not angry.

The NHL has been stating all year that headshots are one of the primary issues in the league. Suddenly, the face of the league gets hit twice in the head in consecutive games and absolutely nothing happens besides a concussion, keeping him out for an extended period of time. Good. Now the league can’t showcase their top superstar and his sidekick to the world in the All-Star game. Fine by me.

The Pens host the Isles tonight at 7PM in their final game before the All-Star break.

Matt Cooke missed today’s morning skate for family reasons, but will play tonight.

Cooke – Staal – Kennedy is expected to be the Pens top line tonight. Letestu will center Kunitz and Dupuis. Look for another strong game from Staal, as well as a lesser Pens’ forward. I can see someone like Rupp or Talbot knocking in a few goals.

Fleury will be in net.
