Just like I do with my nephew, I’m relentlessly pestered the Flames to give me five until they gave in and did it in the most mediocre way possible.
Five games, that is. Against Nashville….always a thriller.
That’s right, the Flames are officially riding a five-game streak that currently puts them in a four-way 56 point tie, assuming San Jose loses tonight.
Unfortunately, the Flames will still not move out of 12th place, thanks to the L.A. Kings and Minnesota Wild going into a shootout.
The Western Conference is pretty tight all-around (sans the top teams) and while the Flames are doing their part, they’re in a position where it’s going to also require the faltering of some other teams, and hopefully less of these extra-time games against Conference opponents. Many are pulling their weight right now, and there has been quite a few 3 point games.
Fortunately, the Flames pulled out of this one with their 7th shootout win. Great to see that the Flames are actually good in the shootout this year, but this won’t help come the playoffs (yes, I’m getting ahead of myself).
It was also great to see Cory Sarich and Matt Stajan score some goals. Sometimes the unexpected is a good thing. Unfortunately, it came with the expected; a bad Olli Jokinen game.
Those blueline giveaways! The wide-open misses! The overall bad decisions! It all happens far too often to not consider benching him for a game. What’s to lose? Goals? Dancing? NEITHER! He refuses to do either.
The Flames face Atlanta next, and while I equate Dustin Byfuglien with a Jesus-esque figure for tormenting Canucks fans last season, I hope the Flames crush him.
