Preview: Thrashers at Sabres

By Alex Bussani

The Buffalo Sabres will take on the Atlanta Thrashers tonight at HSBC Arena. The game has a 7:00 PM start and I will be there.

The Sabres, coming off a 4-day break which is their longest rest since mid-February before starting a road trip, will look to win a big game and position themselves ahead of Carolina for lone control of that 8th spot in the East. Buffalo has 2 games in hand, including tonight’s game, over Carolina despite having lost to them twice in a row. Atlanta, on the other hand, could move closer to being eliminated from playoff contention with a loss tonight. With 72 points – four back of Buffalo and Carolina, and no games in hand after tonight, the Thrashers see this as a must-win road game. Evidently, so do the Sabres who need to start winning more consistently if they’re to make a real playoff push in these last few weeks of the NHL regular season.

I think this game will be a good indicator of just how serious the Sabres are about making the playoffs. Same obviously goes for the Thrashers, who need the game even more, and are likely to be in desperation mode tonight.

The only recent injury of note for Buffalo is C Jochen Hecht, who will be out tonight with an upper body injury.

Once again, it’s a 7PM ET start and the game can be viewed on Buffalo’s MSG network. This broadcast will also be the first to feature a new pre-game show that will start on MSG-B at 6:30. Also be sure to follow me (@Sentrix27) on twitter for live tweets from the game.
