James Reimer is a part of the improving Toronto Maple Leafs, as Reimer and the Leafs showed why this team could be great down the road, from their last night 3 – 0 win over the Minnesota Wild. This game really showed the Leafs energy and drive to make it into the playoffs. For Minnesota this game was another down fall for this team after earlier losing 8 – 1 to the Montreal Canadians. For the Maple Leafs, unfortunately they do not gain any ground from the Buffalo Sabers as they are still 5 points from 8th place. The rookie Reimer posted his third career shutout while making 29 saves, with three of those being on Minnesota breakaways. He has won his third straight start, while improving to a record of 7-0-1 in his last eight road games. On the other side in the net for the Wild, Niklas Backstrom saved 14 of 17 Leafs shots. The Leafs who scored last night are Joffrey Lupul (10th) in the 1st period, Mikhail Grabovski (28th) in the 2nd and Carl Gunnarsson’s (4th) on the power play 2:13 into the 3rd period.
It is still a tough climb for the Maple Leafs after they play the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday. Then the climb begins with the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday, Buffalo Sabers on Tuesday and Boston Bruins on Thursday.
