Toronto Maple Leafs win 4-3 to Keep Playoff Hopes Alive
The Toronto Maple Leafs continue to amaze everyone by beating the Buffalo Sabers 4-3 in an absolute must win game last night. The Leafs have made a remarkable comeback against their division rivals after losing their first three games and letting in 12 goals against the Sabers. One of those games was a 6-3 lost where James Reimer played his first career NHL game. But then the last 3 games the Leafs have won 2-1, 4-3 & 4-3. Now with the win last night the Leafs are five points back of 8th place, but still find themselves two points back of the Carolina Hurricanes and needing to leap frog them.
The Sabers found themselves on the wrong side of the score in the first period after Dion Phaneuf slapped a huge shot passed Ryan Miller 1:34 into the 1st. Then later in the 1st Thomas Vanek was fortunately got a wristed shot in, with 12 seconds left in the 1st. Then in the 2nd period Clarke Macarthur scored because of Nazem Kardi’s effort and drive to the front of the net. But the Sabers surged back with goals by Jason Pominville and Rob Niedermayer, which happened in a span of 30 seconds. Mikhail Grabovski scored his 29th got the game winning goal at the end of the second. No action happened in the 3rd, although the Tyler Bozak penalty at the end of the 3rd made the game real exciting at the end.
