After a disappointing 2nd round exit by the Philadelphia Flyers, James van Riemsdyk’s season isn’t quite over, yet. JVR will join team USA at the World Championships in Slovokia.
The United States has a medal round qualification game on Monday against Switzerland, van Riemsdyk is expected to be in the line-up.
JVR started is journey towards the NHL in the Team USA National Develepment Program, representing USA in the Under-20 and Under-18 World Junior Championships.
van Riemsdyk broke out in the 2010-11 NHL Playoffs scoring 7 goals, showing off his explosive speed and strength. JVR gives Team USA a big boost, as adding a player of his caliber gives them a great chance at advancing far in the tournment.
“When asked, I couldn’t say no,” said van Riemsdyk.” It’s an honor.”
This will be JVR’s first experience at the senior level of international play. Chances are, it won’t be the last time he represents the red, white and blue.
