Matt Martin was very impressive in his first full season with the New York Islanders, and at only 22-years-old he is one of the better defensive forwards on the team.
Although Martin did not have the success of John Tavares or Michael Grabner, he played his role on the team very well.
Martin was mainly out on the ice as an enforcer, and actually was the 15th most penalized player in the NHL with 147 penalty minutes.
That being said Martin also added five goals and nine assists, which is not bad for a player who is not on the ice a lot and not expected to put up massive numbers.
Martin was actually suspended twice during the season for a combined six games, but that is to be expected from a young fighter who may let his emotions get a little out of check.
It will be interesting to see what role Capuano has in mind for Martin come next season.
