New Coyotes Goalie Gets His New Mask
Phoenix Coyote goalie Mike Smith has released pictures of his new helmet he will be wearing next season.
Mike Smith was acquired via free agency by the Coyotes a few months ago to fill the void Ilya Bryzgalov left in net. Smith, who spent his last 4 seasons in Tampa Bay, will have big shoes to fill as Bryzgalov was named team MVP last season. Smith only played in 22 games last year but had a 13-6 record.
Smith, who is preparing for the upcoming season, has released pictures of his new helmet via the Coyotes website. The inspiration behind the helmet appears to be Wile E. Coyote, the Acme Cartoon character. David Arrigo is the artist behind the helmet, and is also designing a second helmet to be worn during the season as well for Smith. The first helmet, as seen here, is a depiction of Wile E. Coyote adorned in Phoenix Coyote goalie gear. Smith’s number 41 is written in a cartoon font on the front of the helmet. The back says “A. Smith”, for Smith’s first child Aksel.
The glaring yellow eyes of Wile E. Coyote will be staring down some of the NHL’s brightest stars in just a few weeks when the puck drops on the new NHL season.
