Toronto Maple Leafs Player Review (Pre-season Edition)

The NHL pre-season is here, and I want to look at where each Toronto Maple Leaf player can help out this season, where do they need to improve and my projections of what numbers they could put up for the 2011/12 season.

Today I will be looking at the three players Brian Burke trade for this off season.

Matthew Lombardi
1 – Where is he going to help out?
Well, in my opinion he’s a better two way forward than Bozak. So once Lombardi is back to 100% he should get 3rd line duties.

2 – Where can he improve?
For Lombardi, it’s more about coming back into the game smoothly, than actually improving his skills.

3 – My projections!
I still don’t know when Lombardi is expected to be back in the NHL; possibly early November. But anyways I go Lombardi down for 10 goals and 25 assist. I base is on hope that he won’t get injured again, after he makes his return.

Cody Franson
1 – Where is he going to help out?
Well Franson’s 6’ 5” frame well help out. He’s a versatile defenseman that will blow away in his own end and has the ability to slap a shot against you in the other end.

2 – Where can he improve?
He is a young player, so there is always room for improvement. He needs to improve his awareness and reaction when the play changes quickly.

3 – My projections!
I want to see at least 30 points from Franson this year and hopefully 10 goals. He will get power play time.

John Michael Liles
1 – Where is he going to help out?
Offensive power house and power play specialist. I don’t want to take shots a Tomas Kaberle because I enjoyed him when he was a Maple Leaf, but I think Liles is better than Kaberle offensively.

2 – Where can he improve?
Well, we would like to see his defense improve, but I like his offensive enough that I don’t care about his defense. Also the Leafs have some solid defenseman already so we are able to have a offensive specialist.

3 – My projections!
I better see 40 points out of Liles. I am looking forward to seeing all the new Maple Leafs this season.
