1st Period Summary
Near the end of the first period new Panthers signed player Tomas Fleischmann capitalizes on a slap shot to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead. Dallas outshot Florida 7 to 5 in the first period. Good defensive play by both teams not a lot of early action.
2nd Period Summary
Midway through the 2nd period Tomas Vincour with the wrist shot goal. Jake Dowell with the assist. Dallas ties the contest at 1. Almost a minute and a half later Loui Erksson with a wrist shot goal gives Dallas the 2-1 lead.
Late in the 2nd period Florida has a 5 on 4 power play going. Toby Peterson with a shorthanded goal to give Dallas a 3 to 1 lead. Florida would end the period trailing by 2 goals with a 5 on 3 power play advantage with 8 seconds left in the 5 on 3 2 man advantage. Both teams tallied 14 shots on goal in the 2nd period. Dallas outshot Florida 21 to 19 in shots on goal through 2 periods.
3rd Period Summary
Dallas kills off the 5 on 3. Then Florida gets 2 more power play chances. Jonathan Huberdeau the 3rd overall pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft scores with a wrist shot on the power play. Panthers defender Dimitry Kulikov would also score on a power play this would tie the game at 3 heading into overtime.
Florida had complete control of this 3rd period. The Panthers converted 2 power play goals and outshot Dallas 26 to 3 in the 3rd period. Dallas was lucky to be tied with Florida heading into overtime.
Dallas would go on to win 4 to 3 in overtime thanks to a Michael Ryder goal. The reality is Dallas got lucky in this preseason contest as Florida clearly outplayed Dallas in the 3rd period and fought back.
