Colorado Avalanche win against Montreal Canadiens
After a great game the Avalanche are victorious yet again on this 5 game road trip making them 4-1-0 so far in the season.
Muller is still out and reported to be on a day-to-day basis and Kobasew was on the ice again in his place. Also out tonight was Galiardi with Porter in for him. McLeod was wearing the third “A”.
Kobasew got the first goal of the night and his first of the season/as an Avalanche member. The first ended 1-1. David Jones and Stastny scored in the second, Jones scoring twice ending the second 4-3. In the third the Canadiens responded with 2 more goals which Quincey came with about 4 minutes left in the game to tie it up 5-5.
For the second time on this road trip the Avalanche went into OT which ended scoreless and went into a shootout. The Canadiens could not deliver in the shootout and came up short on their first 2 players on the ice. The Avalanche though started with the same 2 players, Hejduk and Duchene. Both players came out and delivered just as they did Wednesday in Columbus ending the game with a final score of 6-5.
The best moments of the night had to come from O’Brien. On a few occasions a Canadien player skated straight at Varlamov and as he entered the crease O’Brien was there to stop them. He pulled Mathieu Darche out in the first and then Erik Cole in the the second. Both times O’Brien received penalties for roughing, the second led to a fight between the 2 players. It’s great to see a defense man establish they will support their goaltender and not let a player invade their crease without having to answer for it.
The next game is Monday in Toronto starting at 5:00 Mountain Time where they hope to close out this 5 game road trip 5-0. They will return home on Oct 20th to play the Chicago Blackhawks. Can they keep up the hard work they’ve been showing on the road when they return home? Here’s hoping for that first home win.
