Red Wings lose (again) in large part because of Conklin (again)

By Eric Ryan

The best news for Detroit Red Wings fans since Friday
night’s win can be found on the transaction wire.

October 24th: Goaltender Joey MacDonald recalled
from Grand Rapids.

While the call-up might just be temporary due to Jimmy
Howard’s absence, optimists can hope otherwise.

My first two articles on have been back-up
goalie-intensive.   If that is the team’s
biggest problem, that is usually a good thing.
However, for the Wings, it is not.
It’s a serious issue.

The Wings lost to the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight
4-1.  The Jackets came in to tonight’s
game with a point.  Ah point, let alone
many points to necessitate a win.  The
loss makes two straight for the Wings.
These two games were to teams (the Washington Capitals and Columbus) on
the opposite ends of the spectrum as far as respectability is concerned.

The main commonality in the two games was the individual who
apparently got lost and ended up in the crease with 70 pounds of pads on.   Ty Conklin is not cutting it for the Wings
between the pipes.  Joey MacDonald has
experience with the Wings on two different occasions and can fill in admirably
when he needs to.  He deserves to be
given a chance to prove himself.  After
all, it can’t really get worse.

Perhaps Howard could schedule the birth of his future
children in the offseason.
