Hurricanes get revenge on Lightning

By Sterling Eby

The Hurricanes finally mount revenge dating back all the way to last year when the Lightning pounded the Hurricanes on the last game of the season to spoil the Hurricanes playoff chances. The Hurricanes played arguably the gutsiest game of the year hanging in there with their division rivals to win 4-2 in Raleigh.

Jeff Skinner scored two goals in the second period and Chad LaRose also scored two goals in the game. Skinner now leads the Canes with six goals, and twelve assists on the season through twelve games. The Hurricanes addressed all of their problems in this game. They scored on their powerplay in the first period, they killed off a five-on-three penalty kill in the early second, and Cam Ward played a tough gritty game only giving up two goals on 30 shots.

The Canes still couldn’t stop the ‘Cane killing duo of Vincent LeCavalier and Martin St. Louis as they both got an assist in the third period on the first career goal of Brett Connolly‘s career to make the score 3-2 in the late third but LaRose would get the pass from Jiri Tlusty on a two-on-one and score to give the Canes the game.

GAME NOTES

* Hurricanes Forward Jussi Jokinen left the game after a scary faceoff situation with Dominic Moore and Ryan Shannon. His knee was awkwardly landed on by Shannon and he would not return to the bench, or the game.

* Hurricanes Captain Eric Staal has not scored in six games. In those six games he has only recorded one assist and has a plus/minus of -4.
