Stuart Percy Named Captain of Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors
Stuart Percy is a 6′ 1″ 185lbs defenseman from the Oakville, Ontario. He was named captain of the his OHL team, the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors this weekend. He is well deserving of this honor, not just because he’s a natural leader or his 9 points in 12 games so far this season. But his dedication to the game and the significant growth the Majors have seen in Percy after only two seasons in the OHL.
In Percy’s sophomore OHL season he nearly double his point total from his rookie season. But the most impressive stat was his +50 +/- as well as his strong 12 points in 20 playoff games, which helped his stock go up; this made him a first round selection.
Percy was drafted in the first round (25th overall) by the Maple Leafs in the 2011 NHL Draft. Percy was one of the players that wanted to get drafted by the Maple Leafs, since he grew up as a leaf fan and he has played his minor and amateur hockey all in Toronto.
Percy possesses all around capabilities, with exceptional skating and puck handling skills. Percy’s on ice vision is excellent, along with his desire to get physical. I don’t expect Percy to challenge for a spot on an already deep Maple Leafs defense core until the 2013/14 season.
