Philadelphia Flyers vs Florida Panthers Game Preview

By Johnny Machurek

Tonight the Philadelphia Flyers will end their Florida road trip when they take on the Florida Panthers.  Both teams have the same record 8-4-3 with 19 points.

Last year Philadelphia took three of four against the Panthers including both road games winning 5-2, 4-2, and 3-2.  The Panthers lone win came in Philadelphia, when they shutout the Flyers 5-0.

Our goalie matchups as always come to us from, in net for Philadelphia is Ilya Bryzgalov (6-4-2 2.85 GAA .895 save percentage) and for Florida is Jose Theodore (6-2-2 2.39 GAA .922 save percentage).

The Flyers are coming off a loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning where they are times engaged in a stalemate against the 1-3-1.  The Panthers are coming off a 5-2 road win against the Winnipeg Jets.

3 Things to Watch For

1. Long Point Streaks: The Flyers have points in their last five-games, the last time they failed to get a point was in that crazy 9-8 loss to the Jets on October 27.  Florida has points in their last six-games and like Philadelphia the last time they didn’t get a point was on October 27 in a 4-3 loss to the Ottawa Senators.

2. Home Powerplay vs Road Penalty Kill: The Panthers at home hold the number three ranked home powerplay at 23.5%.  The Flyers are the number five ranked road powerplay with a 90.6% kill rate.

3. Scoring First vs Leading After the First: Florida is ranked seventh in the league when it comes scoring first with a record of 6-1-1 .750.  While the Flyers are only .500 when scoring first they are perfect when holding the lead after the first with a record of 7-0-0.  Also, to note the Panthers are 0-2-2 when trailing after one.
