Washington Capitals Pregame: Nashville Predators
The Washington Capitals (10-4-1) travel to the Music City tonight as they take on the Nashville Predators (8-5-3). This is the first of two games this season where the two teams will face off. The teams played each other once in the preseason, where Washington won by a score of 3-2 in OT.
I expect to see Tomas Vokoun starting in net tonight, as he has been the go to guy all season, posting a record of 8-2. He was also in net against his former team when the Capitals beat them in the preseason. Michal Neuvirth also just played on Saturday night in a 3-2 OT loss to the New Jersey Devils. With three games in five days, I am expecting to see both goalies to see playing time during the three-game road trip.
Nicklas Backstrom leads the team in points with 20 (5 G, 15 A). Expect to see him add to that total. Alex Ovechkin will look to get back to his scoring ways after being held to only three shots on net in the last game. Ovechkin is still second in points on the team with 14 (7 G, 7 A) and has been known to score in bunches when he gets hot this season. Jason Chimera has been hot of late, scoring in both ends of the Capitals home-and-home stand against the Devils. He now has 9 (6 G, 3 A) points on the season, and is only one goal behind Ovechkin for the team lead.
The Capitals only have six healthy defensemen heading into the road trip, and are hoping to make it through with those six. Mike Green has been bitten by the injury bug yet again and won’t make the trip with the team. If needed, the Capitals could always fly a d-man in to wherever they are from Hershey, or even play Brooks Laich on the blue line again.
The game starts at 8:00 tonight and can be viewed on CSN-MA and FS-TN.
