Carlo Colaiacovo heads to the IR again; Blues call up Cade Fairchild

Carlo Colaiacovo is back on the injured reserve list with the lower body injury he sustained against the Florida Panthers.  Colaiacovo was heading off on a line change towards the end of the first period and tweaked his hamstring after hitting a rut in the ice.  The Blues haven’t speculated how serious this injury could be but it sounds like Coco could miss a couple weeks more.

Due to the injury to Carlo, the Blues have dug into their minor leagues again and called up Cade Fairchild.  Fairchild is not expected to be in the lineup tonight and with Ian Cole still on the big league squad I wouldnt expect to see much, if any, of the Golden Gopher grad, barring any more injuries to the blue line.

Fairchild, 21, does not quite have the same offensive flair that Colaiacovo does but he can still score.  He has recorded 6 points (2-4) in his 17 games with the Rivermen this season and defensively has the best plus-minus in the AHL with a +13 rating.

This is Fairchild’s first professional season.  The rookie has spent the last 4 seasons as a part of the Blues organization with the Minnesota Golden Gophers where he posted a line of 21-72-93 in 149 career games with the Gophers.  He was the Blues 4th round selection in the 2007 NHL Draft.  Even if he does not make an appearance this time around for the Note, he will soon.
