Brian Burke today signed Stuart Percy one of the team’s two first round draft picks that were selected in this year’s June draft. Percy signed a three year entry level deal and the terms of this deal have not been released yet.
The other player the Maple Leafs selected in the first round was Tyler Biggs. Biggs currently is attending the University of Miami (Ohio).
The Maple Leafs selected Percy 25th overall in the 2011 NHL Draft. In his rookie year, he had your typical average, just getting your feet wet year. He registered 15 points in 52 games for the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors.
But in Percy’s sophomore season, he stepped his game up a couple of notches and recorded 33 points in 64 games, along with an impressive +50 +/-. In the playoffs Percy was able to step up and be an impact player in a lengthy playoff hunt for the Majors, with 12 points in 20 games. So far this season Percy is working at a point per game pace, with 17 points in 18 games. Go Percy Go!
Positives; Percy has two way capabilities and possesses excellent puck moving skills, even when under pressure. Another positive his is ability to produce on the power play. Also at 6′ 1″ he has the ability to stand his ground in the defensive zone.
Negatives; Percy needs to work on his core and leg strength, to be able to compete at the NHL level.
